After losing her husband to IPF in 2013, Sally Mundell suddenly found herself a single parent to two young girls and in a place of self-reflection. The traumatic loss left her with a strong desire to focus on what is important in her life her kids and making a positive difference in the world.
She found that channeling her grieving into giving nurtured healing for herself and her girls, but as a single, working mom, it was difficult to find kid-friendly volunteer opportunities. Researching nonprofits was time intensive, limited staffing resulted in inconvenient volunteer hours and monetary donations did not provide the experience she was longing for.
